I have worked in the Care sector since leaving school. I began work at Fairhaven in 2012 as a Senior Carer, progressing to Head of Care, Deputy and then finally Registered Manager. I really enjoyed my role as Manager and was very proud of our successful CQC inspection reports that we earned as a team.
In my time at Fairhaven I achieved my NVQ 3 and Level 5 Diploma in management which set me on the pathway to the type of manager I aspire to be. I am dedicated and passionate about delivering the very best standard of care to our residents. In 2018 I earned myself another promotion to Regional Manager which was bittersweet as I then had to leave Fairhaven, a home that I loved.
My role as Regional Manager was short lived however, as I was asked to take over as the interim Manager of Little Hayes for 12 months until another manager was found. In October 2020 I am back doing my role as Regional Manager full time and now look forward to supporting the Providers, Managers and staff to achieve the very best for each home.
Away from work I spend time out with my partner and friends for a relaxing meal or to watch live sport fixtures. I find this a great way to destress after a long week. We now have a grown up family and are blessed with two small grandson’s who we are lucky enough to see most days.
I have been working in the care sector since 2012 as a Care Assistant. I then became a Senior Care Assistant, and a little later a Deputy Manager.
Following a change of circumstance my career path changed. However, I knew I would still like to continue working in the care sector. I supported some of our homes to set up an online care plan system before moving into my current position as an Internal Auditor providing support to our homes as needed. I enjoy the flexibility of my current role as I visit most of the homes within the group to carry out audits, so every day is different.
In my free time I like to spend quality time with family, my cats and my dog.
In 1999 I decided that I would like a change of career after 20 years in the motor trade. Having a qualification in Surveying and Estimating I started a maintenance company carrying out property renovations, installing disabled bathrooms and kitchens for the Isle of Wight County Council and general repairs. As the business grew, my roll became more office-based concentration on estimating and Health and Safety.
In 2018 after some health issues I decided to close the business and have a less stressful life and came to work for OakRay Care as Health and Safety Manager. As part of the management team, I have a supporting role and work closely with the Regional Manager and Directors. As a group we are constantly reviewing and enhancing our procedures to cater for the individual needs of our residents and staff.
As Helen Keller said, “Alone we can do so little; together we can do so much.”
I joined OakRay Care Group Ltd in October 2017 to provide general administrative services for the homes in the Group and to work closely with the Directors and Registered Managers.
Due to the company expansion, this was a new role and a new challenge for me. I’ve worked in the care sector since 2014 and completed an NVQ2 in Business Administration in 2016. I have a wide range of knowledge and experience in administrative roles, having previously worked in the banking industry, security industry, and for a local solicitor. I am very organised and committed to delivering high standards.
In 2020 I took on the roll of producing a monthly newsletter for the residents and staff. Which is fun, and a great opportunity to share the news and events going on in the homes.
OakRay is a friendly, family run business, caring about their residents and staff. It’s lovely to see the interaction with the residents and staff when I visit the homes, in a relaxed atmosphere. The Support team works well together to maintain our high standards.
Outside of work I like to watch football, sightsee and spend time with family.
I come from a very technical background where I oversaw large commercial projects throughout my 20 years career in the communications industry. Upon founding OakRay Care in 2013 my main focus was sales and acquisition which I truly relished, as I was able to acquire great care homes to ensure the business thrived. As Operations Director the key areas I oversee now are mainly accounting, finance and insurance liability. Whilst my role can be quite technical, I am passionate about people and enjoy the day to day interaction with staff and residents.
I achieved the Level 5 NVQ Diploma in Leadership for Health & Social Care in 2016. This has helped me understand care needs and requirements, whilst also focusing on strategic growth of the company. I champion positive and engaging homes for our residents to live in, where our staff can also focus on continuous improvement and learning.
I recognise the impact that our sector has on people’s lives and I am committed to providing care homes that provide a wonderful engaging place for our residents to live and a great place for our staff to work.
Outside work I enjoy spending time with the family, running, travelling, listening to music, occasionally attend live concerts and networking with friends.
I started my career working for Barnardo’s as a System Analyst and then went to work in the City for 18 years.
During this period, I held a management position and I acquired numerous transferrable skills which are pertinent to the care sector. The most important skill for me, was to recognize the important role that people play in making a company successful.
I always aspired to work in an environment which was person centred and naturally aligned to “Caring and Compassionate” values and consequently the company was started in 2013.
Working in the care sector is incredibly challenging, however equally rewarding. Everyday we have an opportunity to make a positive difference to someone’s life and we should never forget the privileged position that we are in.
While I’m a process orientated person and a firm believer that technology plays an important role in the care sector, the end result should always be for the benefit of our people and to make their lives more comfortable and engaging.
My hobbies include reading and my favourite author is Stephen Covey, I also enjoy running, cricket and playing chess.
I began my career in HR Compensation and Benefits. This was primarily in the Investment banking and financial services sector, gaining 15 years of project and people management experience.
My key takeaways working in a highly regulated industry was to ensure good team dynamics, collaboration and transparency. These, alongside clear strategic goals kept a workforce motivated.
When I joined OakRay Care, from the outset I found it hugely rewarding. It was clear that even small changes could positively impact the home, especially staff culture. I am undoubtedly a people’s person with an open and honest work ethic. To now be given the opportunity to work in the care industry is a real honour and can be truly humbling at times. Therefore, I do take pride in how we interact with our residents and strive to always secure their happiness and wellbeing. I believe we are all lifelong learners and so want to make certain OakRay Care continues to improve and evolve.
My pastimes include regular gym training, cooking, social / political documentaries, and watching my son’s cricket matches.
